MEMORIES OF GOA

Finalist MARRICKVILLE CONTEMPORARY ART PRIZE 2010, Curated by AT THE VANISHING POINT CONTEMPORARY ART, at Chrissie Cotter Gallery, Camperdown Sept 2010.

My works are directly inspired by the lived visual experience, spatial structure and felt perceptions.  For the installation ‘Memories of Goa’ I undertook to reflect on my recent travels in India and directly consider a visit to the wall paintings and sculptures of Ajanta and Ellora in the Western Provence.

The drawings were installed directly into the gallery, over a period of 8-10 hours, using paper collage and pins.  The paper was sourced from National Geographic magazines, dating back to 1980’s found in a second hand shop in Kings Cross, Sydney. Each drawing was composed from one image, the volume of the printed image establishing the volume of the drawing.

The volume of the original installation sited in Studio 13, May St Studios, measured aprox 210cm width by 70 cm high.
